Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut & Return

Early morning pickup from your hotel in Arusha or Moshi (around 7:00–8:00 AM). Drive ~1 hour to Marangu Gate (1,860m) for registration, briefing, and permit checks. Begin the gentle ascent through beautiful montane rainforest – spot black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, exotic birds, and towering tree ferns. Hike approximately 3 hours (8km) to Mandara Hut (2,700m) for rest, photos, and picnic lunch with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. Optional short exploration around the hut area. Descend the same trail back to the gate (~2 hours). Return transfer to your hotel, arriving late afternoon/evening.
